Offertory Prayers

February 26, 2012 – First Sunday in Lent
God of mercy and grace, we give these gifts of ourselves, striving to be the obedient children you have called us to be in covenant with you. We are reminded by the example of Christ that there is nothing that this world can tempt us with that can match the satisfaction of being tested and found faithful. In our times of plenty and our times of need, help us keep strong in our conviction that in you and only you can we put our trust for the security of our lives. We pray this in Christ's holy name. Amen. (Mark 1:9-15)

Daily Prayer, Sunday, January 22, 2012

O God, for you alone my soul waits in silence,
for my hope is from you.

Morning
Invitatory Psalm 24
The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it.

You have founded it on the seas and established it on the rivers.

Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in your holy place?
Those who have clean hands and pure hearts, who do not lift up their souls to what is false, and do not swear deceitfully.
They will receive blessing from the Lord, and vindication from the God of heir salvation.
Such is the company of those who seek you, who seek the face of the God of Jacob.

Lift up your heads, O gates!
and be lifted up, O ancient doors!
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is the King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty,
the Lord, mighty in battle.

Who is this King of glory?
the Lord of hosts,
You are the King of glory

Psalms 90, 92, 93

Daily Lectionary Reading, 1 Corinthinians 7:29-31

29 This is what I’m saying, brothers and sisters: the time has drawn short. From now on, those who have wives should be like people who don’t have them. 30 Those who are sad should be like people who aren’t crying. Those who are happy should be like people who aren’t happy. Those who buy something should be like people who don’t have possessions. 31 Those who use the world should be like people who aren’t preoccupied with it, because this world in its present form is passing away. [Common English Bible]

Today's Prayer: O God, keep us focused on what is truly important. Amen.

Evening
Psalms 108, 109
