It took a year to read the Bible, then almost 9 months to read the Apocrypha. Now, I'm going to try to offer reflections on the Narrative Lectionary. But, I won't be posting daily--at least, for a while.

Daily Prayer, Saturday, September 3, 2011

Praise the Lord! We sing to you a new song. Praise the Lord! (from Psalm 149)

Morning
Invitatory Psalm 67
God, be gracious to us and bless us
and make your face to shine upon us,
that your way may be known upon earth,
your saving power among all nations.
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you.

Let the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for you judge the peoples with equity
and guide the nations upon earth.
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you.

The earth has yielded its increase;
God, our God, has blessed us.
May God continue to bless us;
let all the ends of the earth revere you.

Psalms 81, 82, 85

Daily Lectionary Reading, Romans 13:8-10
8 Don’t be in debt to anyone, except for the obligation to love each other. Whoever loves another person has fulfilled the Law. 9 The commandments, Don’t commit adultery, don’t murder, don’t steal, don’t desire what others have, and any other commandments, are all summed up in one word: You must love your neighbor as yourself. 10 Love doesn’t do anything wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is what fulfills the Law.

Today's Prayer: O Lord, sometimes we worry that we aren't following the rules well enough. And, sometimes, we don't worry about the rules at all. Keep us mindful of what rules that you consider important. And keep us mindful of what we need to do to do what you intend for us--to love. Help us remember to love, strengthen our ability to respond to others' needs lovingly. Amen.

Evening
Psalm 107
