It took a year to read the Bible, then almost 9 months to read the Apocrypha. Now, I'm going to try to offer reflections on the Narrative Lectionary. But, I won't be posting daily--at least, for a while.

Reflection on Psalm 145:1-8

When God decided not to destroy Nineveh, Jonah was very displeased. He was angry with God for being merciful.  When the workers in the vineyard who had been there all day saw that the latecomers were getting paid a full-day's wage, they were displeased.

What is there inside us that makes us resent someone else's receiving something that in our minds they just don't deserve?

Psalm 145 models for us a much more appropriate response to God's gifts.
We should be grateful for what we have already received.
We should express our gratitude every day.
We should tell others about God's gifts.
