It took a year to read the Bible, then almost 9 months to read the Apocrypha. Now, I'm going to try to offer reflections on the Narrative Lectionary. But, I won't be posting daily--at least, for a while.

Daily Prayer, Wednesday, December 4, 2013

Blessed be your glorious name forever;
may your glory fill the whole earth.
Amen and Amen. (after Psalm 72:19).

Morning
Invitatory Psalm 100

Psalm 37

Daily Lectionary Reading: Isaiah 11:1-5
A shoot will grow up from the stump of Jesse; a branch will sprout from his roots. 2 The Lord’s spirit will rest upon him, a spirit of wisdom and understanding, a spirit of planning and strength, a spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord. 3 He will delight in fearing the Lord. He won’t judge by appearances, nor decide by hearsay. 4 He will judge the needy with righteousness, and decide with equity for those who suffer in the land. He will strike the violent with the rod of his mouth; by the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked. 5 Righteousness will be the belt around his hips, and faithfulness the belt around his waist.
[Common English Bible]

Prayer for Today: Lord, transform us so we can live lives modeled on the One you sent. Stir within us a spirit of wisdom and understanding, of planning and strength, and knowledge and fear of you. Increase our wisdom and judgment so we won't judge by appearance or make decisions based on gossip. Stir up within our hearts the ways to help those who are suffering. In all things, mold us into righteous and faithful people. Amen.

Midday Psalm 119:57-67

Evening
