I've noticed that a lot of people who aren't every-Sunday churchgoers do come to church on Easter and for services relating to Christmas. What would they think about the Titus readings? For that matter, what do people who come to church a time or two a month think?
God wants us to renounce impiety and worldly passions. Does that include Christmas gifting and New Year's Eve parties? I fear it does.
Jesus Christ gave himself for us to redeem us from past sins and to keep us from committing new ones. People who belong to Jesus are eager to do good deeds.
And, according to this letter from Paul to Titus, that all for whom Jesus Christ has given himself really is all (2:11).
Jesus saved us not because we deserved it, but because he is merciful.
