It took a year to read the Bible, then almost 9 months to read the Apocrypha. Now, I'm going to try to offer reflections on the Narrative Lectionary. But, I won't be posting daily--at least, for a while.

Daily Prayer, Sunday, December 4, 2011

Let us hear what God the Lord will speak;
for you will speak peace to your people,
   to your faithful,
to those who turn to you in your hearts (from Psalm 85:2)

Morning
Invitatory Psalm  24
The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it,
the world, and those who live in it.
You have founded it on the seas
and established it on the rivers.
Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in your holy place?
Those who have clean hands and pure hearts,
who do not lift up their souls to what is false,
   and do not swear deceitfully.
They will receive blessing from the Lord,
and vindication from the God of heir salvation.
Such is the company of those who seek you,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob.

Lift up your heads, O gates!
and be lifted up, O ancient doors!
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is the King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty,
the Lord, mighty in battle.

Who is this King of glory?
the Lord of hosts,
You are the King of glory.

Psalms 147, 148, 149

Daily Lectionary Reading, 2 Peter 3:13-15a
13 But according to his promise we are waiting for a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness is at home. 14 Therefore, dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found by him in peace—pure and faultless. 15 Consider the patience of our Lord to be salvation.....

Prayer for today: O Lord, we are waiting for your new heaven and new earth. We are waiting for your righteousness to be at home with us. Instruct us how we can prepare to be worthy of your home. We give you thanks for the patience you have already extended to us. We ask you now to strengthen our will and efforts to be worthy. Amen.
