for the glory of your name;
deliver us, and forgive our sins,
for your name’s sake. (Psalm 79:9)
Invitatory Psalm 24
The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it,
the world, and those who live in it.
You have founded it on the seas
and established it on the rivers.
Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in your holy place?
Those who have clean hands and pure hearts,
who do not lift up their souls to what is false,
and do not swear deceitfully.
They will receive blessing from the Lord,
and vindication from the God of their salvation.
Such is the company of those who seek you,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob.
Lift up your heads, O gates!
and be lifted up, O ancient doors!
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is the King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty,
the Lord, mighty in battle.
Who is this King of glory?
the Lord of hosts,
You are the King of glory.
Psalm 90, 92, 93
Daily Lectionary Reading, 1 Timothy 2:1-7First of all, then, I ask that requests, prayers, petitions, and thanksgiving be made for all people. 2 Pray for kings and everyone who is in authority so that we can live a quiet and peaceful life in complete godliness and dignity. 3 This is right and it pleases God our savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 There is one God and one mediator between God and humanity, the human Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a payment to set all people free. This was a testimony that was given at the right time. 7 I was appointed to be a preacher and apostle of this testimony—I’m telling the truth and I’m not lying! I’m a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. [Common English Bible]
Prayer for Today: God, we pray for wisdom and well-being be given to all, to people in authority and to people who are under their authority. Keep all of us mindful of your love for us and your care for us. Amen
