It took a year to read the Bible, then almost 9 months to read the Apocrypha. Now, I'm going to try to offer reflections on the Narrative Lectionary. But, I won't be posting daily--at least, for a while.

Daily Prayer, Thursday, September 19, 2013

God is high above all nations,
and God's glory above the heavens (Ps 113:4).

Morning
Invitatory Psalm
Psalm 150

Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty firmament!
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
praise him according to his surpassing greatness!
Praise him with trumpet sound;
praise him with lute and harp!
Praise him with tambourine and dance;
praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with clanging cymbals;
praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
Let everything that breathes praise the Lord
Praise the Lord!

Daily Lectionary Reading, Psalm 113
Praise the Lord! You who serve the Lord—praise! Praise the Lord’s name! 2 Let the Lord’s name be blessed from now until forever from now! 3 From sunrise to sunset, let the Lord’s name be praised! 4 The Lord is high over all the nations; God’s glory is higher than the skies! 5 Who could possibly compare to the Lord our God? God rules from on high; 6 he has to come down to even see heaven and earth! 7 God lifts up the poor from the dirt and raises up the needy from the garbage pile 8 to seat them with leaders— with the leaders of his own people! 9 God nests the once barren woman at home— now a joyful mother with children! Praise the Lord!
[Common English Bible]

Prayer for Today: Lord our God, we join in your praise. You have come down from your heights to lift up the poor, to raise up the needy, to include them in decisions and share with them the responsibility to care for others. Amen

Midday Psalm 119:113-120

Evening
