It took a year to read the Bible, then almost 9 months to read the Apocrypha. Now, I'm going to try to offer reflections on the Narrative Lectionary. But, I won't be posting daily--at least, for a while.

Daily Prayer, Friday, October 18, 2013

How sweet are your words to my taste,
   sweeter than honey to my mouth! (Psalm 119:103)

Morning
Invitatory Psalm
Psalm 118
We give thanks to you, God,
   for you are good;
your steadfast love endures forever!
….
With God on my side I do not fear.
….
This is the gate of the Lord;
   the righteous shall enter through it,
….

Psalms 76, 80

Daily Lectionary Reading, Jeremiah 31:31-34
31 The time is coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and Judah. 32 It won’t be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt. They broke that covenant with me even though I was their husband, declares the Lord. 33 No, this is the covenant that I will make with the people of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my Instructions within them and engrave them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 34 They will no longer need to teach each other to say, “Know the Lord!” because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord; for I will forgive their wrongdoing and never again remember their sins.
[Common English Bible]

Prayer for Today: Lord our God, we are thankful that you have reached out to us, that you have led us of troubles and dangers that we have created for ourselves and ones that have been thrust upon us. You have forgiven us for our wrongdoings. We have heard your directions for the path we now should take. Instill within us the will to follow that path. Amen.

Midday Psalm 119:121-128
I have done what is just and right;
   do not leave me to my oppressors.
Guarantee your servant’s well-being;
   do not let the godless oppress me.
My eyes fail from watching for your salvation,
   and for the fulfillment of your righteous promise.
Deal with your servant according to your steadfast love,
   and teach me your statutes.
I am your servant; give me understanding,
 so that I may know your decrees.
It is time for the Lord to act,
   for your law has been broken.
Truly I love your commandments more than gold,
   more than fine gold.
Truly I direct my steps by all your precepts;
I hate every false way.

Evening
Psalm 106
